Executive summary

David is a Director within the Advisory department of BDO NI, with over 15 years’ experience working across a wide range of advisory, corporate finance, restructuring, turnaround and insolvency related work.

He is a Chartered accountant and Licenced Insolvency Practitioner, having passed his JIEB examinations in 2014. He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.

David combines his extensive specialist experience, with considerable commercial knowledge, having worked in practice, industry and banking. He has been involved in a number of high profile advisory and insolvency assignments, with responsibility for making key decisions and managing various stakeholders. In this time, he has built up a strong network of relationships across banks, funders, legal firms, trade bodies and agents.

David has strong commercial awareness and knowledge of the NI market across a range of sectors, including an understanding of the key opportunities and challenges facing local businesses.

Recent insolvency assignments have included being the Joint Administrator of 3 large, high profile Shopping Centre assets; liquidator of over 20 companies (including creditor voluntary,  members voluntary and compulsory liquidations; trustee of a number of bankruptcies; and managing a range of fixed charge receivership assets.

 

David’s corporate finance and advisory experience encompasses the following:

  • Acquisition and Disposal of Businesses
Lead advisory roles across a number of different sectors; advising key stakeholders in the acquisition/sale of businesses.
  • Independent Business Reviews (IBR)
Significant experience advising financial institutions and clients in respect of their debt exposure, providing options, outcome statements and recommendations to facilitate the implementation of innovative solutions to overcome key issues.
  • Finance Raising/Refinancing Work
Preparation and presentation of detailed funding proposals to financial institutions to secure finance, with consideration of security provision and bank related covenants.
  • Financial and Commercial Due Diligence
Detailed assessment and challenge of company business plans and funding proposals on behalf of financial institutions; highlighting key financial and non-financial risk factors (and potential mitigation) and providing recommended options.
  • Strategic Planning
Preparation of detailed business and growth plans, incorporating sector review, SWOT analysis and financial modelling to successfully obtain various forms of funding.
  • Business Valuations
Experience in assessing businesses and market data to prepare valuations for multiple purposes.


Outside of work, David is a keen sportsperson, with particular interest in golf, football, skiing and also plays tennis competitively for a local club.
